Combustion area of a Gas Turbine Engine

Winbro, A Quaser Company has developed a comprehensive range of application solutions for Turbine Blades and industrial cooling hole and form generation. These are often tailored to fulfill the specific requirements of a particular engine design. The primary areas where Winbro’s High Speed EDM, Laser and ECM technologies are applied include:

—Holes for wall cooling and effusion cooled combustors
—Film cooling holes in HP blades, vanes & segments
—Laser drilling, cutting and ablation of various engine components
—Shaped holes for blades and vanes
—Cooling hole re-openings
—ECM forming of compressor blades
—Creep-Feed grinding of forms and features in blades, vanes & segments

Additional applications and machine systems are continually being developed to meet the specific needs of our customers, ensuring that we always provide the most appropriate solution to any individual application.

Turbine Blades

Turbine Blades

Winbro manufactures machine systems which are used to create the miniature holes required to cool aero and industrial gas turbine high pressure blades. These holes are critical in allowing internal airflow to cool parts and prevent overheating during engine operation. Effective cooling improves component efficiency leading to reduced fuel consumption and NOx emissions on today’s generation of lightweight, low noise, jet engines.

Nozzle Guide Vane

Winbro manufactures machine systems which are used to create the miniature holes required to cool aero and industrial gas turbine high pressure nozzle guide vanes. These holes are critical in allowing internal airflow to cool parts and prevent overheating during engine operation. Effective cooling improves component efficiency leading to reduced fuel consumption and NOx emissions on today's generation of lightweight, low noise, jet engines.

Combustors

Combustors

Combustor cooling is achieved in two primary forms, wall and effusion cooling, with some combustors making use of both forms. In general a wall cooled combustor will have fewer holes of a greater diameter and use of the shape of the combustor to facilitate effective cooling. By comparison, an effusion cooled combustor has many thousands of small holes acutely angled to the side wall of what is essentially a conically form.

Compressors

Winbro Group Technology’s capabilities extend beyond the creation of cooling holes and features. We also apply our expertise and technologies to the production of precision aerofoil shapes for compressor blades and vanes. Compressor blades and vanes are manufactured from materials such as Stainless Steels, Super Alloys and Titanium, all of which are difficult to machine.
